Rather than offering a magical formula for finding the right person, Sztreker emphasizes the importance of working on yourself so that you become a better future husband or wife. Through a mass of practical knowledge and a variety of exercises (many of them psychological), he encourages readers to rethink their views on love, men, women, and themselves. He places great importance on self-awareness, arguing that "a healthy relationship begins with understanding your own purpose and that of the other person." He discusses the different kinds of love, the differences between men and women, and what each sex typically expects from the other, while highlighting the importance of listening to one another and being authentic.
